In Andean cosmology, Hanan Pacha refers to the upper world—the realm of light, celestial movement, and the spiritual forces that guide life from above. It is not conceived as a distant sky, but as a living field of presence: the space where the sun, moon, stars, and the origin of clarity reside. Hanan Pacha is the plane of vision, where perception expands and the self recognizes its connection to something greater.

Nano Ruiz’s “HANAN-PACHA” series approaches this dimension through a sequence of interior chambers, each opening toward a field of light. The viewer is positioned inside these silent, geometric spaces—facing a portal through which chromatic light becomes a medium to breathe, feel, and orient the self. The angle, scale, and intensity of the luminous opening vary across the 25 panels, tracing a gradual journey in which the perception of light shifts with its distance, luminosity, and presence.

Light here is understood not as an external phenomenon, but as an event of awareness—illumination as recognition, clarity as embodied presence. Each chamber exists simultaneously as intimate interior and threshold: a point of passage between reflection and expansion, between the personal and the vast.

Within Ruiz’s broader cosmological cycle, Hanan-Pacha follows the introspective descent of Ukhu-Pacha and the relational balance of Kay-Pacha. Where Ukhu-Pacha turns inward toward memory and origin, and Kay-Pacha dwells in the lived present, Hanan-Pacha offers the possibility of ascent—of seeing from above while remaining grounded. This series invites stillness and contemplation. It does not propose arrival in a distant celestial realm, but rather the recognition that the sky is already held within the interior landscape of the self.
